Fighting Germs With Trained Eyes and Technology
High-touch areas harbor various germs that we combat with Level-II monitoring systems.
Medical facilities are highly susceptible to rapid germ growth, and we identify the high-touch areas that create the most significant patient risk. We use qualitative measurements to help us document and monitor germs and train employees on proper cleaning and disinfection methods.
Direct Observation
Through direct leadership observation, our EVS technicians learn and improve their overall performance in assigned areas of responsibility.
Direct performance observation allows our leaders to monitor and document cleaning practices. We emphasize reinforcing proper methods and providing consistent, positive, and constructive feedback. Our OPS360 quality assurance platform lets us record these observations in real time, providing a baseline for future training schedules.
ATP Testing
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) Testing allows us to determine the cleanliness of surfaces to better understand the effectiveness of our procedures.
We monitor ATP levels using a small hand-held device called a luminometer. Typically, we take a reading of common high-touch items after a room has been cleaned and disinfected. If the swabbed surface shows an unacceptable level, an additional disinfection is needed, as well as training with the staff member on proper dwell times and pressure of wiping the surface. Remember, the pressure of wiping with a disinfectant can be just as important as the necessary dwell time of the disinfectant. Both are needed to properly kill germs.
