ATP Monitoring

We utilize ATP monitoring in select areas of the hospital to evaluate the effectiveness of cleaning processes, reinforce training, and substantiate the role of EVS in HAI reduction.

CTP Training and Testing

Critical touch points (CTPs) represent areas of your hospital touched frequently, creating conditions conducive to the spread of HAIs. CTPs include bed frames, TV remotes, door knobs, light switches, chair arms, etc.

SMS Healthcare trains housekeepers to systematically clean CTPs in every patient room. This ensures all CTPs are cleaned correctly every time. During our hands-on training program, invisible glow gel is placed on CTPs, before the housekeeper cleans the room. A black light is used to see the glow gel that was not removed during cleaning, identifying training gaps that need to be addressed. Managers also use random room inspections with glow gel and a black light to continually monitor training effectiveness.

Joint Commission Compliance

We are 100% compliant with the environmental and housekeeping standards set by The Joint Commission. We prepare all directors, supervisors and employees for Joint Commission readiness through initial orientation, 90-day evaluation and annual competency testing that focuses on bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste, infection control/isolation precautions, emergency preparedness and personal protective equipment.

The EVS Director in all our healthcare facilities is a member of the Environmental of Care (EOC) committee. This committee ensures compliance of all Joint Commission standards. The following are standards that we comply with on a day-to-day basis:

  • PCI.2 - The EVS department is a participant in the infection prevention and control program with acceptable practices, guidelines and standards for sanitation and cleanliness.
  • PCI.7.1 – The EVS department provides proper management of laundry and linen.
  • PCI.7.2 - The EVS department provides proper disposal of waste.

We use a variety of proven products for cleaning, disinfecting and floor care.
